Arc Flash Labels
If you need Arc Flash Hazard safety labels, Clarion has them - tailored to meet your requirements!
No doubt you are aware of the new requirements contained in the 2002 National Electrical Code® for
marking such controls with an arc flash hazard label. The following provision is included in the 2002
National Electrical Code®:
110.16 Flash Protection. Switchboards, panelboards, industrial control panels, and motor control centers
in other than dwelling occupancies, that are likely to require examination, adjustment, servicing, or
maintenance while energized, shall be field marked to warn qualified persons of potential electric arc
flash hazards. The marking shall be located so as to be clearly visible to qualified persons before
examination, adjustment, servicing, or maintenance of the equipment.
The new requirement is intended to reduce the occurrence of serious injury or death due to arcing faults
to workers who work on or near energized electrical equipment. The warning label should remind a qualified
worker who intends to open the equipment for analysis or work that a serious hazard exists and that the
workers should follow appropriate work practices and wear appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE)
for the specific hazard.
Accordingly Clarion now has several safety labels in several sizes specifically targeted to conveying safety
information concerning arc flash explosion hazards. Note that you can customize these labels as you
deem necessary with alternate symbols and/or text!

online catalog .
The standard referred to in several of the labels is NFPA 70E-2000, Electrical Safety Requirements
for Employee Workplaces, provides assistance in determining severity of potential exposure, planning safe work
practices, and selecting personal protective equipment. In the limited amount of text on safety labels, it
is close to impossible to explain all of protective measures contained in this standard, therefore a summary
statement is used.
